Car boot sales normally consist of a lot of lovely junk, over zealous shoppers and a cone of chips for breakfast. But the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair takes the whole theme up a notch or two.
Returning to the Truman Brewery, East London, this year’s event will be showcasing work from the likes of Gavin Turk, Bob & Roberta Smith and Sir Peter Blake.
In keeping with the bargain prices, Sir Peter Blake will be selling coveted signed prints from £25, and Ordinary Lives has commissioned a UK based brick factory to manufacture a run of bricks to replicate the original ‘brick’ mobile phones.
Limited edition Pretty Taxing tax disc holders will also be for sale, including brand new artworks from Gary Hume, Don Brown, Gavin Turk and Georgie Hopton amongst others, appropriately displayed on a 1966 Vauxhall FC Victor Estate. And, if the excitement is too much to handle, Barley Massey and Belle Tidswell will be hosting the alternative counselling unit ‘Emotional Baggage’ for visitors to offload their troubles and woes in a fun and quirky environment.
A live ‘graffiti-off’ will be taking place between urban artists Miss Led and Scrawl Collective using two Astras as their canvases, whilst The Booty Stage plays host to live music by the likes of King Groovy and the Horn Stars, The Great Blondini and Hoop La La's.
And with your artistic juices flowing, pick up some fodder for your belly from the Artists' Choice Farmers Market.
